Original Ram Seal logo

Ramseal (or Ram Seal) was a product that was formulated, marketed and sold by Jim Estess.   From my research, this was a reputable and effective water repellent for earthen products. Though I never had the opportunity of testing it, word from the street was that it worked.

On May 19, 2019, I received an email from a man in New Mexico interested in the Silox Adobe Water Repellent. He mentioned that Mr. Estess had died several years back and that Ramseal was no longer available for purchase.

I was surprised at this news, not knowing that Mr. Estess had passed away. Upon researching what happened, I learned that he died on Oct. 7, 2015. Ramseal’s websites are no longer available and are offline.

Throughout the decades of being involved in adobe preservation and restoration, Ramseal would occasionally come up and was a competitor to the Silox Adobe Water Repellent. The passing of Mr. Estess leaves a void in the small world of quality water repellents.

If you have used Ramseal in the past and are wondering where you might be able to purchase another similar product to protect your adobe and rammed earth, please contact Roy Spears at (520) 331-4004 to learn how the Silox Adobe Water Repellent can help protect your adobe and rammed earth homes and walls.  The video below briefly explains the importance of applying a quality water repellent to rammed earth walls:
